Hawker Chan is indeed named after the owner of the stall — Chan Beng Seng — and has been around since 1988. Before it was located at where it currently is — the bustling Bedok 85 Market — it actually was at Kallang Bahru. After which, it moved to Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 and then, Bedok North Road.

While that's plenty of moves, Mr Chan has had his loyal throngs of fans follow him wherever he goes and it is evident that his stall is one of the more popular ones at Bedok 85 Market based off the snaking long queues it commands.

His menu features 18 different items ranging from hotplate cockles and oyster omelette to vegetables like spicy kang kong.

Not sure what to try when here? Get the stingray — you can't go wrong with it. This is made with grey-spotted stingray, which is specially supplied from Kuantan, Pahang.

Despite living nowhere near the East, I knew all about Hawker Chan, one of the best places in Singapore to get popular barbecued seafood.

And it's well-worth the travel down, even when I had to wait over 20 minutes for my food. Thank god for the buzzer system they had, so I could wait at my table and not at the stall itself!

I ordered myself the oyster omelette, the spicy lala, and of course, I just had to try the famous Chan's BBQ Stingray, the most popular dish here. If you have a low spice tolerance like me, I have to warn you that the food got very spicy. However, it was so good that I kept shoveling into my mouth! The stingray lived up to expectations and was fork-tender and very juicy. The lala was fresh and easy to crack open, which mean that we did not receive any bad ones. The omelette was huge too and came with chunks of fresh oysters. My only gripe with this was that I had hoped that there would be more oysters, but nonethelessm still a very delicious dish! I do recommend getting a bowl of rice (or two) to help with the heat because the food is really quite spicy.
