If you're looking for a spot that sells affordable and authentic old school desserts in Singapore, look no further than Berseh's Dessert Paradise at Berseh Food Centre.
The stall has over 50 traditional chinese desserts on the menu, some of them with a more modern twist.
Some of the more traditional ones you can anticipate trying include Ice Kachang and Bu Bu Cha Cha. They also have more interesting options like Coconut Ice Kachang, Honeydew and Nana DeCoco, and Mango & Strawberry Ice Kachang.
The stall is helmed by several elderly folk who have years of experience preparing such desserts for the masses.
I am a sucker for a good bowl of ice kachang and really wanted to try their rendition of ice kachang, so I got the mango one.
This was expertly prepared for me by an elderly uncle in the stall. It was quite mesmerising watching him shave the ice and pour magical coloured liquid on it to give it its iconic look!
The ice kachang was toweringly tall! This icy mountain came topped with various coloured sauces and of course, the mango. I really enjoyed the addition of mango as it added a pop of sweetness to every bite.
It was also very refreshing eating this dessert on a hot day in Singapore!
