Towkay neo Mrs. Irene has been running her stall, Chikuyo Japanese Cuisine, for over 20 years at Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre. Because of her passion for cooking, she became a chef in 1994, experimenting various local and Japanese dishes. Mrs. Irene and her husband arrive at the stall at 9a.m. every morning to prepare their original sauce from scratch, rice and miso soup. During business hours, they do what they can to prepare for the next day. They even spend another 2 hours after closing to prepare before going home. It is no wonder that their Japanese dishes are prepared with so much love and care. They recommend their Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Set, all the curry items, Katsu Don, and their Karaage Chicken. Their Karaage Chicken is so popular that it sold out 2 hours before their last order at 8.45p.m! Winning their well-deserved Second Place for Delicious Katsu Don, this stall is swarmed by local Singaporeans and Japanese alike!

My Japanese friend was raving to me about this Katsu Don, so I had to come try it with my husband. We couldn't decide, but we eventually went with Set B (Saba + Chicken), Tempura a la carte (3 pieces of shrimp tempura), and my friend's recommendation, the Katsu Don. The saba was roasted perfectly, and the chicken katsu was so tender, yet crispy on the outside! For the shrimp tempura, the plump shrimp was wrapped in crispy batter, when eaten with their original tempura sauce, was a match made in heaven! I... totally understand why my friend was obsessed with the Katsu Don now. The tender meat, blended with egg, onions and the sauce... Stunning. We were so happy with the price and the flavour! Definitely coming again〜
