Helmed by Mr Andy Koh, Terry Katong laksa specialises in authentic bowls of Nyonya laksa that is made with a generations-old recipe that has been handed down across the years — yes, his name is not Terry.

Laksa isn't the healthiest dish out there but Andy tries to make it less sinful by not adding MSG, sugar, or evaporated milk. He also successfully does this without making the dish any less delicious or hearty, which is quite a feat!

And he has awards to prove that his food is good such as the Singapore Special 100 Commendation, which he received in 2008.

Laksa isn't the only thing he sells — he has nasi lemak and Nyonya otah as well!

Signature

Laksa

Despite being tempted by the nasi lemak, I got the laksa instead because I was curious to see how it tasted.

For just $4 you get a bowl packed with rice noodles, cockles, prawns and fishcake that is doused in a rich, spicy and sweet laksa gravy. While Andy does not add MSG, sugar, or evaporated milk to his laksa, you honestly can't taste the difference. The gravy is hearty with a good balance of spice and creaminess, and the ingredients are fresh and add a nice bite and seafood touch to the dish.

The laksa also has a good amount of heat without being too overpowering, which is great for people with low spice tolerances like me! Will definitely be back, especially to try their nasi lemak and otah.
