Mee Hoon Kueh has been around for a few years and was started by 34-year-old Yi Jie, who has always dreamed of setting up his own F&B business.

After leaving his previous industry, where he sold pet supplies for two years, he started his hawker journey in 2017, when he enrolled in the Entrepreneurship Programme by Fei Shiong Enterprise. Here, he trained under veteran hawkers and picked up many skills from there.

After three months of in-house training, he went to Turf City's Nam Kee, where he learned more about mee hoon kueh. He even spent one month learning how to make the dough, which explains why he eventually specialised lies in mee hoon kueh.

While mee hoon kueh is a rather common dish in the local hawker scene, it is hard to come across rememberable ones. So, I was really glad when I chanced upon this stall.

The dough here is all handmade and I even watched the stall employee hand pluck it before putting it into the pot of broth to cook! Everything here is prepared the traditional way too.

What I really like about the noodles here is how chewy they are and each piece has a unique texture thanks to how it was prepared. The soup was also packed with umami and was surprisingly rich, which is hard to find in meen hoon kueh dishes. I also really loved the handmade meatballs which were very juicy.
