Golden Mile Special Yong Tau Foo has been in our local hawker scene for decades - since 1958, actually! - and specialises in soothing, nostalgic bowls of yong tau foo.

The stall is run by some elderly folk who take pride in their work and handmade the bulk of the yong tau foo themselves.

The stall is easy to spot thanks to the snaking long queues and don't be intimidated — this moves along pretty fast! But do beware, the stall sells out very early, so early bird gets the worm.

I visited the stall at around 1.30pm on a weekend afternoon and while I wouldn't consider myself as very late, the stall only had a few options of ingredients left, so I was pretty bummed out. I picked out what I could and queued for my food.

This moved along pretty quickly and I got my food fast.

The yong tau food brought me back to my childhood days! It was so simple, just several pieces of handmade ingredients bobbing away in a light, clear soup. But it was so soothing to the soul and it really warmed me up.

From the irregular shapes of the yong tau foo, you could immediately tell that it had been handmade. Definitely will be back for more as it healed my inner child but I need to go down early so I don't miss out on all the good stuff!
