There are multiple chicken rice stalls at Yuhua Village Market & Food Centre but one of the more popular ones is evidently Hup Hong Chicken Rice, which perpetually has long, snaking queues. The business is family-run and has been passed down multiple generations. Like mosty chicken rice stalls, they only sell two variations of chicken — roasted and steamed. You can also opt for other meat options like char siew but evidently, their chicken rice is the most popular menu item. Apart from normal chicken rice, they also sell chicken wing or chicken thigh with rice for people who prefer other parts of the chicken. And don’t forget to finish off your meal with some of their spicy homemade chili sauce as well!

鶏飯

The past few times I visited the food centre, Hup Hong Chicken Rice was closed, so I was elated to find them open this time around. The queue, as expected, was very long and I had to stand in line for around 15 minutes. I got myself the roasted chicken rice as I like the crisp skin and was not disappointed. For just $3, you get a generous amount of chicken that lies atop a bed of rice. The chicken, though roasted, was not as dry as I thought it would be and the cuts were very thick. The rice was also not greasy at all and was still very fragrant! I also really love the chilli — though very spicy, it was was packed full of flavours and added a sweet yet heated touch to the dish.
