Oriental Duck Stall has been in the local food scene since 1946, which is over 76 years! Currently, the family business is run by second generation hawkers who aim to continue the brand's legacy.
The duck here is made and marinated with a secret recipe, which explains the duck's delicious taste. Duck menu items patrons can look forward to include Braised Duck Liver, Braised Duck Noodles and Whole Duck.
While the stall's name suggests that it only specialises in duck, they actually sell a wide range of other menu items like Braised Pork Trotters, Kway Chup and even Herbal Bak Kut Teh.
They're so famous that they were even featured multiple times in the media, like Channel NewsAsia's On the Red Dot series.
I adore both duck and bak kut teh so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that this stall sold both!
When I visited in the late afternoon, the stall was relatively quiet and there was no queue. I ordered myself a plate of their duck rice and a piping hot bowl of bak kut teh, both of which were prepared for me on the spot.
The various components of the duck rice were all executed well — tender, moist duck, fluffy rice, sweet and savoury sauce — and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
On the other hand, the bak kut teh — which was done up herbal-style instead of the typical peppery style that most Singaporeans are used to — was rich and soothing with a generous serving of tender, meaty pork ribs. I also paired my bak kut teh with a bit of the rice and this worked wonderfully.
