Yi Jia Teo Chew Fish Porridge and Soup has been around for over two decades and specialises in homely, comforting bowls of fish porridge and soup.
The long snaking queues are a testement to their popularity so be prepared to queue for a good 10 to 20 minutes, and even more during peak lunchtime.
Their menu is straightforward and consists of fish either bee hoon, rice, porridge, or simply just in soup form.
And apart from the regular fish soup, the stall also sells pomfret fish soup if you're looking for a slightly more luxurious option. There is even a pomfret prawn soup option!
I arrived on a weekend during lunchtime and the queue was pretty long. I had to wait a good 15 minutes before I ordered and received my food.
I got the pomfret porridge. It isn't like your usual thick porridge and was Teochew-style, so you can see the individual grains or rice floating about in the soup base.
The soup here is very light and sweet, complementing the tender, succulent fish slices. Despite how it looked, the portion size was deceivingly generous and I felt sufficiently full after the meal. I can see why so many people would willingly wait in the queue for this!
