While old-school Western food isn't hard to find in Singapore, some places do it better than others.

One of them is Ye Lai Xiang Barbecue at Maxwell Food Centre that has been around for five decades.

The stall was founded in 1971 and used to be located at Margaret Drive Food Centre. Their menu consists of Hainanese-style western dishes with classics such as chicken chop and pork chop. And if you think steak can never be found in a hawker centre, you're wrong because they serve that right here!

Spoilt for choice? They have a mixed grill that comes with an assortment of proteins for you to try.

When I arrived on a weekend afternoon, there wasn't much of a crowd. However, I did have to wait a while for my food as they needed time to cook it. As I did, I watched the chef masterfully grill the meats of the Mixed Grill platter that I had ordered and it was quite a sight!

My mixed grill gave with a satisfying array of meats like chicken, pork, lamb, beef, bacon and sausage — great for people who need to up their protein intake!

All the meats were cooked extremely well and were very tender. I also love the sauce that was doused on everthing. Use the provided bread to mop all that goodness up!
