Bee Heng Satay Popiah has been around since 1978. They specialise in only two dishes — popiah and satay.

If you want to have a taste of traditional popiah, this is the place to visit because the recipe for this iconic dish has been passed down in the family from 1930s.

They're located at the bustling Newton Food Centre and while there are a number of stalls there that sell similar items, their's always has a snaking long line, a testament to how popular their food is!

As it is a Chinese establishment, there is no beef satay. However, they do sell pork ones. Pair it with their rice cakes for some carbs!Satay is one of my favourite hawker dishes to get because it's not only fun to eat, but it's also a great dish for sharing.

I arrived at the stall on a Friday evening and boy was it packed. I waited in a long line just to take my order and still had to wait even more just for my food.

I ordered both the popiah and satay so I could try them both. For the satay, I also ordered all three protein options — chicken, mutton and pork. Each satay costs 70 cents per stick and you have to make a minimum order of 10 sticks.

I absolutely loved the satay! they had a beautiful, caramelised char so there was a little bit of sweet and savoury bits in every bite.

I also really love the popiah. Very traditional and simple flavours that hit all the spots.
