Jun Yuan House of Fish is one of the more known fish soup establishments in Singapore. They were established back in 2014 by second-generation hawkers, Jason and Tsering, who started the business with their parents.

They opened their first outlet in 2014 at Old Airport Road before subsequently opening a second and third outlet at Pasir Ris (2018) and Wisma Atria. However, the Wisma Atria outlet has recently closed due to the pandemic.

Their specialty lies in Teochew soups and there are a variety of different options to choose from like grouper, batang and fried fish.

The original recipe used actually belonged to the sibling's grandparents and from there, they tweaked it to try and cater to the younger market by using ingredients like X.O and spinach.

Signature

Seafood Soup

With so many different soups on the menu, you bet I was spoilt for choice because I just wanted to try then all!

Eventually, I settled on the seafood soup because it seemed like the best way where I could try a little bit of everything.

Typically, fish and seafood soups come clear unless you opt to add milk. However, the one here already came very cloudy. I am unsure if they added milk but whether they did or not, the soup was already creamier and thicker than most!

The bowl was loaded with a variety of fresh ingredients like prawns, fish and minced pork. Just like how I imagined, the soup was extremely packed with umami thanks to the seafood and pork and it had a subtle herbal element to it which was a nice change from your usual fish or seafood soup. I had mine with rice but I honestly think it's so good on its own that you can do without it!
