Located at Albert Market Food Centre, a very centralised area with good crowd, it is easy to miss this stall. The bright red signboard with a little chicken head greets you, but it is the staff and owners of the stall that makes you feel welcomed.

Like many chicken rice stalls, there are options for ‘white’ (steamed chicken) or ‘roasted chicken, including add-on staples like Char Siew, Roasted Pork and Vegetables. This Hainanese Chicken Rice stall used to be a famous stall at Waterloo Street, and it proudly shows, with the various newspaper clippings and photographs with celebrities placed around the stall. They have been making their own chicken, pork and rice since 1974!

It’s also a very affordable meal to fill the stomach.

I went for lunch slightly after the peak hours, so I was glad it was still opened for business. Because there was no queue before me, I was served with my chicken rice rather quickly. I ordered steamed chicken rice with roast pork.

The chicken was tender and chewy, with the light sauce drizzled all over it. The roasted pork, though in smaller slices, had a good crisp layer on the top and a good amount of meat-to-fat ratio with a nice smoky taste to boot. The chicken rice itself was fragrant and grainy, just the way I liked it. Chilli sauce was a little too sweet as compared to the garlic-ky taste, but spicy enough to enhance the overall flavour of the dish.
