Not to be confused with the famous Rochor Original Beancurd, Rochor Soya Bean is a humble stall at Albert Food Centre that specialises in soya bean drinks and soybean beancurd (also known as tau huey). The stall has been around sice 1969, which means that they’ve been in the local food scene for a whopping 50 years! Apart from basic soya bean-based drinks and desserts like soya bean milk and beancurd, they also have interesting menu items like beancurd longan and beancurd gula melaka — intriguing!
I usually go for regular, plain soya bean drinks, but when I saw that Rochor Soya Bean had a gula melaka soya bean drink, I was intrigued. Gula Melaka is known to be on the sweeter side so I was concerned that this drink may end up being a tad bit too cloying for my liking. Surprisingly, this wasn’t the case and the soya bean flavors were very pronounced and while the gula melaka was on the lighter side, you could still taste its prominent sweetness. It was overall a very well-balanced blend that I can foresee myself craving in the future! Would also like to try their other soya bean drinks and desserts in the future.
