Hong Seng Curry Rice had humble beginnings in 1995 and is a family-run business. The stall is currently run by a man named Alex who took over the stall from his uncle and father some time in 2017. Alex’s family had initially wanted to close down the store for good so they could retire but thankfully Alex prevented them from doing so! Currently, his parents still run the outlet at Redhill and you will probably be served by them when you visit the stall. Here, they have set menu items to choose from and these come with a variety of delicious dishes that are paired with rice and then doused in a generous amount of curry sauce. Alternatively, you can DIY and pick and choose the ingredients you want. Very nostalgic!

I came a little after the lunch crowd so thankfully, there was no queue. It was easy to spot the stall as its walls were covered with pictures of reviews from famous food blogs as well as accolades they’ve won over the years. I got myself the 4 Heavenly King’s Meal ($6.90) which comes with a variety of ingredients like braised cabbage, pork belly, chicken cutlet and a fried egg. The serving size was massive! Despite coming quite late in the day, the ingredients were really fresh — the pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth, the chicken cutlet was uber crispy and the braised vegetables were so soft. The curry sauce was also sinfully good and not too spicy so you don’t get overwhelmed with each bite. It’s such a simple, messy yet satisfying dish that I feel everyone should try at least once!
