Located at Redhill Food Centre, Yong Kee Chicken Rice is a stall that may not have the longest of queue, so if you are there for a fast meal without the fuss, this would be it. Chicken rice is a nation’s dish, and Singaporeans like myself holds it to high standards – whether is it the rice, the tenderness of the chicken or even down to the chilli.
Whether you are there for roasted meat, char siew or steamed chicken, these options are available for order. Stallowner are not as friendly as one would expect, but they do their job really well. Because there are 2 people in the stall – one who takes care of orders and serve, while the other cooks and chops the meat, therefore plates are served rather quickly as well.
Redhill Food Centre isn’t the cleanest of all the hawker centres, but a decent one that sells really affordable food, so variety of food and whenever you are there for something cheap for the pocket, this hawker centre is a great choice.
Chicken Rice is a Singaporean's proudest dish, so expectations are high. It may not be the most popular stall, but one would expect a decent and probably something even more when you do decide to sell a dish like Chicken Rice at hawker centres.
Yong Kee Chicken Rice may not have snaking queues, so I got my order rather quickly, about 5 minutes and I have my steamed chicken rice, with a good amount of chicken, as well as a bowl of soup.
The chicken was tender, and had the chicken rice was grainy - where it didn't stick to one another. Each grain was also coated really well, so the fragrance of the garlic made it flavourful in each bite. The soup was a little salty, so do take it with the rice and chicken. Also, chilli is a must-have. Not the greatest chilli, but gives a good spice and kick to your overall taste.
