Fortune Food Popiah isn’t any other popiah stall at a hawker centre and they encourage their customers to get creative and make their own popiah, kueh pi tea and even laksa with specially curated DIY kits that you can purchase on their website. If you’re too lazy to do so, fret not as they have 7 outlets islandwide at places such as Albert Centre Market & Food Centre and Chinatown Complex Food Centre where the food will be made and prepared on the spot for you — how convenient! During pre-covid days, you could also find them at events and markets such as the Singapore Food festival. Additionally, they were featured in many newspapers and media sites such as The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao and U-weekly. In 2009, they were even one of the 12 hawkers to receive the President’s Award for the Environment (PAE)!
I love popiah and the ones at Fortune Food Popiah really lived up to my expectations. These were prepared for me before my very eyes and the auntie stuffed the popiah and rolled it up right in front of me! Much to my delight, they are very generous with the fillings and each popiah was plump and brimming with things like radish, minced egg and peanuts. I was concerned that the popiah skin would be too soggy but surprisingly, it was stiff and maintained its shape. One roll also costs $1.80, which is pretty cheap considering that the popiah is so filling.
