The owner and chef of Joo Chiat Beef King hails from Shan Dong and has helmed the stall for over a decade.

The stall actually belonged to previous owners who passed it to the current owner, who decided to keep the original name. There is also an outlet nearby at Tiong Bahru Market.

All the recipes are also inspired by the owner's home back in China and he wakes up early every day to prepare his beef.

The menu is simple and all dishes consist of beef. The most popular dish is the Beef Noodle, which you can opt for either dry or soup. If you prefer innards, get the Braised Beef Tendon!

When I arrived at the market around 3pm, it was one of the few stalls open. I ordered the dry beef noodles, which features springy noodles drenched in a delicious viscous gravy. The dish is also topped with a generous serving of beef cubes. I like how the dry noodles come with a side of soup so you still can try it without having to order the soup version.

The noodles were springy and paired well with the beef which was very tender and juicy. The thick sauce also helped to elevate the natural flavours of the beef. I also loved the rich, beefy soup and you can tell that it had been boiled for very long as it was chock full of umami.
