Situated at Shunfu Market, this bakery has been around for many years and has three outlets around Singapore. Chocolat N’ Spice also sells speciality cakes, pies and desserts, but is best known for their affordable muffins. At least for the outlet at Shunfu Market, there is a perpetual queue with customers young and old purchasing their favourite muffins and other baked goods. Don’t be too surprised if you hear people ordering dozens after dozens of muffins.
There is a menu, in the form of an A4 paper stuck near the shopfront, and if you are a first-timer, it can be rather stressful hogging the line and being unsure of your order. The whole process felt like a machine-run operation so do be prepared and have an idea of what you would like before your turn at the counter.
I bought the Chocolate Chip and Banana Walnut to try and wasn’t disappointed. I assumed the Chocolate Chip was one of their hot-favourites as I heard customers before me shouting their orders; while Banana Walnut was to taste the sweetness and flavour of the muffin.
As a whole, the batter of the muffin was definitely something to look forward to. The slight crisp on the outside really complemented the soft and light inside. I thought the Chocolate Chip could be a littler more generous, but it didn’t compromise on that chocolatey flavour. In fact, I hoped it could be more than what was baked. The Banana Walnut wasn’t too sweet and had bits of crunchy walnut, giving it an added layer of texture.
