If you're craving for some authentic thosai, check out Rajarani Thosai at Tampines Round Market & Food Centre.
The food here is all prepared by a mother-and-son duo who do everything themselves.
Featured in multiple food blogs and media sites, the stall is famous for its, as its name says, thosai, which is handmade from scratch every day.
For the uninitiated, thosai is a crepe-like South Indian savoury pancake that is made from fermented rice flour, ground lentils and fenugreek. The process in making it from scratch is tedious but the owners still chose to do so anyway.
The variety of thosai here is extensive too and apart from plain butter thosai, you can also expect other flavours like Butter Egg, Butter Egg Onion, Cheese Butter and even Crispy Cereal.
Signature
Masala, Plain, Puttu Mayam Set
I rarely eat thosai but when I do, I indulge myself because it one sinful meal — worth every calorie, though!
The ones from Rajarni Thosai are exceptionally good and I can see why the stall sees such long queues every day. While queuing, you can also watch the mother-and-son duo in action making all the thosai in their kitchen — it is quite a mesmerising process!
I ordered the original Butter Thosai which came on a special metal pan with four different compartments, one which held the long roll of thosai while the other three held different sauces and curries.
The best part about eating thosai is breaking open the crisp skin and discovering the buttery, fluffy potatoes encased within. The second best part is dunking all of that goodness in the provided sauces and mixing and matching everything for a different taste each time. Quite a magical experience, I must say!
