Pig’s organ soup is a rather controversial dish — you either love it or hate it. But if you’re curious to try it, Koh Brother Pig’s Organ Soup is a good option to consider. They were first established in 1955 and started out as a push cart stall by a pioneer hawker named Koh Kee. He then moved to Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre and has been there ever since. Now, his son and grandson have taken over the reins of the store to help him continue on his legacy. They only sell a few dishes and the main one is, as its stall’s name says, Pig’s Organ Soup. You can order either the $4 or $5 option and rice can also be added on if needed.
I’m not a fan of pigs intestines but I have heard plenty of rave reviews about this stall so I knew that I had to give it a go. I got the $4 portion as well as a bowl of rice and found the portion size to be generous and sufficient enough for me. Each bowl of soup comes with vegetables and cuts of pig organs like pig liver, tripe, intestines as well as pork belly, pork balls and lean meat — it definitely was a very porky dish. The various offals provided the soup with a light, natural sweetness which had a tinge of saltiness from the vegetables. The offals are also very clean which is good for people who are especially particular about this aspect.
