The min chiang kueh, or also known as mian jian kueh, or simply pancakes, is a savoury snack that comes with different flavour fillings sandwiched in the middle of doughy-thick flour.

While there are 2 stalls in Tiong Bahru that sells similar product, this particular stall - aptly named Tiong Bahru Mian Jian Kueh, is the one that people queue up for. Perhaps it's the freshness of the pancakes, along with the special menu flavours that healthier customers would appreciate.

There are 3 choices of fillings: coconut, peanuts and red bean. The brown rice version is something new, that health-conscious people would probably opt for. Also, crispy flat ones that breaks with each bite.

The stall opens from 6am to 2pm daily but don't be too surprised if you see that it's closed nearing to the closing time. It usually sells out before 2pm. So, do go down early.

This mian jian kueh is a well-loved savoury snack and I usually go for the peanut fillings. Even though there wasn't the peanut butter option (peanuts sprinkled over drenched peanut butter), I was happy with what I had.

There is this 'traditional' flavour to it, like a clear roasted fragrant of the peanuts. The flour is soft and springy and really gets so chewy in each bite. People do love the slight-crisp edges, which gives it a nice crunch and texture to it.

While there is a healthier-option which is the brown rice, it is slightly more expensive. But perhaps the reduction of sugar would also help because it can be really sweet. Stall owners were friendly, but a little impatient to get orders done as quickly as possible.

For a 5-minute queue and a great snack. Totally worth it.
