Hai Nan Xing Zhou Beef Noodles has been around for 70 years - from Cuppage Centre to Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre where it is currently located.
The family-owned business has been a hit with Singaporeans and tourists alike, often having their dishes sold out before the stipulated closing hours. While the recipe has not changed since its inception, the stall is now managed by the younger Hainanese siblings who are friendly and chatty to customers.
I ordered the dry and soup versions of the popular Sliced Beef + Beef Ball noodles. I enjoyed the bowl of dry noodles more as the thick and rich gravy was simply heavenly. When mixed with the lime and chilli, it was one of the most gratifying lunch I’d ever had; now I know why people queue long hours for this!
The soup was so sweet and robust as it had been simmered for many hours. Of course, the beef slices were so tender and fresh, prepared with no marination or added tenderiser, so did the beef balls that I only hoped I ordered an extra portion.
I am coming back for the tendons next!
