For the uninitiated, cendol is a sweet ice dessert that contains palm sugar syrup, coconut milk and green “worms” that are made with green rice flour jelly. There are not many stalls in Singapore that still sell this and Four Seasons Cendol is one of the most famous ones in Singapore. It’s so good that Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong is a huge fan of it and pictures of him can be seen plastered across the front of the stall. While many of the cendol stalls in Singapore include ingredients like sweet corn to make the dessert fancier, Four Seasons Cendol does not do that, showing the confidence that they have in the quality of their cendol.
The stall only sells cendol and each bowl is priced at an affordable amount of S$2.20. The mountain of ice is drenched in a generous amount of coconut milk and gula melaka. This is greedily soaked up by the ice, giving it a syrupy sweetness that is sinfully addictive. Work your way to the base of the bowl to find a generous amount of red beans, attap seeds and green jelly noodles. The bowl of cendol was also laced with a slight pandan flavour, courtesy of the green jelly noodles. Do note that the cendol melts pretty fast so eat it as fast as you can! Despite that, I have to say that it’s quite pleasant to slurp it down in its melted form like a drink; it’s extremely cooling and satisfying!
