Liang Zhao Ji Dark Porridge Duck Rice is quite a famous stall in Singapore, with long queues often spotted at Whampoa drive.

One year, it even made it to the Michelin Bib Gourmand list, which is quite the best accolade a hawker stall can receive in Singapore. What makes a good braised duck is of course, the star of the dish - the duck. It has to be braised and slow-boiled in a large bowl with soy sauce, amongst a whole lot of herbs for the duck meat to be this fragrant.

As this stall is popular and rather affordable, it sports a long queue, even in the morning and more importantly, lunch hours.

One might think that a duck stall will also sell kway chap, but this stall doesn't. It sticks to what it knows best and I must say, if you are hungry, grab the duck rice. Stall uncle may not be as friendly as you'd expect, but the food is so good you'll be back for more.

I've always loved duck rice and duck meat, so trying Liang Zhao Ji wasn't a hard choice to make, even though with the long queues. My advice is go there early and go with a hungry stomach.

Portion-wise, I do think it's a decent amount for one person, but maybe not a hungry man. The duck is so flavourful and boasts a strong aroma and salty-like taste to it. The meat is chewy, fresh and pairs so well with the rice. Dip in the sauce before anything else, and a tinge of chilli to complete the overall taste.

The rice has an oily coating, which makes the rice so smooth and fragrant as well. As I'd always say, go with chiil!
