Before moving to its current location at Balestier Market, Bugis Street Chuen Chuen Chicken Rice was located at old food haunt Longhouse in Upper Thompson, where it used to be with some of the other stalls in the market like Ah Hui Big Prawn Noodle. The owner of the stall, Madam Yong Fong, even had to hand out flyers to tell customers that she had moved to its current space!

The decades-old stall has been in the local food scene since 1979 and has been serving up delicious chicken rice dishes to the public. They also had another outlet at 21 Tan Quee Lan Street but that was shuttered in September 2021 last year. Currently, the Balestier Market outlet is their only store in Singapore.

I've heard plenty of good reviews about this hawker stall so I knew I had to give it a shot.

I ordered Set Meal B which came with chicken, rice, oyster sauce vegetables and soup. For just $6, the portion was extremely big and I felt very full after that! The chicken texture was silky and tender, and the light soya sauce it was drenched in added a nice sweetness to the dish. I also appreciated the side of vegetables with helped me get my fiber intake! Apart from chicken, I realised that you can also ask for drumsticks instead.

Not a fan of chicken rice? They have porridge too!
