Qiu Lian Ban Mian has been around in Singapore for over 30 years, with outlets all around Singapore. Located at the food court on the top floor of the shopping mall, the Qiu Lian Ban Mian stall has quite the crowd, usually with people who are looking for a hearty bowl of noodle soup, or the perfect warm bowl for a rainy day. The food court area is quite large, but when it comes to the peak dinner or lunch time, you may have to share tables to get a seat.
While the price for ban mian may be a little more expensive than those found at hawker centres, but the quality of food is somewhat remains the same than the ban mian most people fell in love with – depending on which stall you patronize.
There are a variety of food options to choose from, including what kind of thickness you would like your noodle to be, so be sure to choose the thick flat noodles if the original ban mian is what you are looking for.
Ban Mian is the handmade Chinese noodle that most Singaporeans and residents alike have come to love. There are springy, chewy and the soup has just the right kind of thickness and sweetness to it. Each bowl consists of soup, noodles, minced meat, egg and a few slices of vegetables.
The chewy noodles are a little starchy, but not to the point that it sticks to one another, but thick enough to bite into. The soup is not as tasty and sweet as the ones I had before, with a tad watered down in my opinion. However, I’d say the anchovies kind of helped in the overall taste, but it shouldn’t be the main factor of what makes a good bowl of ban mian.
