Many a time, ramen is prepared with pork components, which means that Muslims are unable to eat it.
But Ichikokudo is one of the few places that do not use pork in their ramen and the Halal-certified eatery is a great spot for Muslims to try Hokkaido-style ramen.
As Hokkaido is surrounded by the sea, many of the dishes at Ichikokudo have seafood in it.
Their signature soup is prepared with fresh chicken, vegetables, bonito, mackerel and kelp.
Noodle-wise, Hokkaido wheat is used to create a springy ramen that goes well with the robust broth.
There are four types of ramen bases to choose from — shoyu, hokkai, miso and jigoku (spicy). Popular menu items include the Ichikokudo Ramen Original and Ichi-Beef Ramen.
Apart from ramen, there are also donburi (rice bowls) and a vegetarian menu. Diners can also opt to get sides for sharing.
The ramen chain currently has eight outlets in Singapore at 313@somerset, 45 Bussorah Street, Hillion Mall, Jurong Point, Northpoint City, Paya Lebar Quarter, Changi Airport Terminal 3 and Suntec City.

Halal ramen is quite hard to find in Singapore so it is nice to see places like Ichikokudo sell it for our Muslim friends.
I visited their Bussorah Street outlet in the heart of Kampong Glam around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was quite crowded when I visited but thankfully, I managed to snag a seat on the second floor.
I got the Ichikokudo Ramen with extra rich gravy as it has more collagen. My dining companion got the Sapporo Miso Ramen Gifts From The Sea.
Both the ramens had very robust soups that were more concentrated than I thought it would be, considering that it was chicken. The ingredients were also very fresh.
The Sapporo Miso Ramen Gifts From The Sea is the perfect option for seafood lovers as it comes with a generous amount of prawns, scallops and even crab legs. For the price point, it's very worth it.
