Tori-Q was started by Singaporeans back in 2000 and has been around for over two decades.

The founder, Yohei Takeda, came to Singapore back in 1994 and opened a small takoyaki stand at Clarke Quay.

In 1996, a temporary takoyaki store Takopachi opened in Takashimaya. It turned out to be quite successful and soon became a permanent outlet.

Following this, in 2000, Toru-Q launched its first outlet inside Takashimaya as well and the rest is history.

The skewers here are prepared with care and precision. Fresh ingredients are delivered to the stall every single day and at each outlet, ingredients on skewers are broiled using their special auto-grilling machine.

The final touch is having the yakitori dipped into their secret sauce and grilled.

Fun fact: The "Q" in Tori-Q stands for the long queues that the brand has at its stores.

Like many other Singaporeans, I grew up eating Tori-Q and it has become a comfort food for me. Not only is the food delicious, it is convenient and fast.

When I visited the Junction 8 outlet on a weekday evening, I was surprised to find that the store, which had a small dine-in area, was very crowded.

I was left spoilt for choice by the various options available but of course, I had to go for my favourite options like beef balls, chicken and peppers, as well as chicken cutlet. I also got rice for a more filling meal.

As usual, each skewer was grilled to perfection and I found myself licking up all that sauce.
