Many people flock to 888 Mookata for a satisfying and relatively cheaper mookata option to dine with friends and family. Mookata is essentially barbeque, but with charcoal and an outer rim with delicious and (unhealthy) soup. The oil from the barbeque drips into the soup, making it one a tasty one that you keep going back for more.
This 888 Mookata is located at Bishan, at an outdoor food court. A rather large area for public and I’d say about half of the place is usually filled with people there for Mookata. Opened by Mediacorp celebrities Chew Chor Meng and Zhou Chongqing, this stall at the coffeeshop draws in large crowd due to their affordable price point with good ingredients and even seafood like prawns and scallops. Definitely loads of options for add-ons, but the standard recommended platter is good enough for you and your dining partners.
If you are there, be prepared for your tissues as it can get quite smoky and hot, as well as a lot of time to really sit and enjoy your barbeque time.
For an affordable Mookata fix, 888 Mookata is really one of the best options. Of course, the lack of air condition makes it hard, especially on hot days, but the food is so good and fresh that it’s going to be worth your trip.
What really surprised me was that when I was ordering at the counter/stall area, the portable stove and pot was already placed on my table before I could walk back. That was how efficient it was. And within 10 minutes, I had my tray of raw food, and it was ready to be cooked. I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency. Even the seafood was nicely de-shelled, making it a crowd-pleaser and a whole easier to eat it. Lastly, always, always opt for the add-on Tom Yum maggie to add into your soup.
The only thing perhaps I thought could work better is the depth of the soup circumference. It was shallow that cooking took a bit of time as space was an issue. Other than that, definitely will be back for more.
