Like many other fish soup stalls, Chai’s Original Fish Soup is quite the hidden gem in this food court. There are a good variety of food options to choose from, but go for the fresh fish soup choices because the freshness of the fish is what makes a good bowl of fish soup.
As it is located in the premises of the Food Republic food court, the place is rather clean and tidy, but do remember to clean up your plates and bowls thereafter. The servers do the job like clockwork, so it doesn’t take too long to wait for your food. While she does make each bowl after every order, she makes a few bowls all at once to reduce time. There are add-on options too, like an egg or extra fish cuts.
The fried fish egg floss is one of the reasons why people go back.
I didn’t expect much from a food court stall, because I wouldn’t think it would be anything greater than normal, but I find myself going back for more each time I’m was there. Reason being, not only it was a good decent bowl of fish soup, I thought the sliced fishes – be it the fried ones or fresh fish slices were really fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the soup as well, especially with added milk. I usually take my fish soup with rice, but there are options for noodles and bee hoon as well.
Portion-wise, it was enough for one person and a rather filling meal, so a decent bowl of soup for anyone looking to warm their tummies during a rainy and chilly day. Of course, fish egg floss is always good.
