Chew Kee Eating House has been in Singapore since 1947 and the original owner of the shop learnt the dish in Guangzhou before passing down the recipe to future generations so that they can carry on the family business. It is said that the owner of Chiew Kee Noodle House is part of the same family as the folks behind Chew Kee Eating House but due to unspecified reasons, they parted to set up their own businesses and became competitors. The shops are also just a few stores away from each other at Chinatown — that’s some fierce competition! Many people always argue over who sells the better soya chicken.

Signature

Signature Whole Soy Sauce Chicken

I’ve personally tried the food at Chiew Kee Noodle House so I was curious to see how the soya chicken at Chew Kee would measure up. I got the Soya Chicken Noodles which come with tender slices of chicken atop a bed of yellow noodles with vegetables. The noodles were al dente and very springy. The cuts of chicken were thick, tender and well marinated in the soya sauce. They also provided a side of condiments such as chilli and green peppers for you to pair with your food. Overall, I prefer Chiew Kee Noodle House’s rendition of the dish but it's honestly a hard decision to make because they taste quite similar. Still, it's a good place to get soya chicken and one of the better places in Singapore to do so. I much prefer it to the Michelin Star Hawker Chan’s.
