There’s nothing really fancy about this eatery, but a great place to hang out and chill with friends if you are looking for supper options, a good cup of hot local coffee or tea, prata as a snack or really just looking for more affordable options amongst the line of restaurants and cafes in the area.
Do note that this place is usually really packed with people, no matter the time of the day. So be prepared to wait for a while before getting a seat there. However, the great thing about this eatery is the variety of food and drink options. Whether you are there for main courses like Briyani or noodle options like Mee Soto or Mee Goreng, they have it. Even late-night prata options are great.
It can be quite noisy, and of course, not the cleanest of all, but homely and very ‘community-like’ place to chill with friends, especially in the evening when the weather isn’t harsh on its patrons.
I went in the evening, a little before the dinner time rush, but I had to wait about 10 minutes to find a seat. Reason being, there are a lot of customers there who are just sitting around and enjoying the view (it’s kampong glam area after all) with their cup of coffee or tea. I didn’t mind the wait, but thought the cleanliness could be a little better.
I ordered Mee Soto and boy, it was spicy. While I expected the chilli to be really giving me a run for my money, it was spicer that I expected. Luckily for my iced tea that I didn’t give up on the bowl of noodles. Despite how spicy it was, I enjoyed the bowl of sweet-salty noodles with a rich chicken broth soup. I’d also say that it was rather fragrant as well. While Mee Soto may seem like just another ordinary bowl, it’s a comfort food that one looks for, and this hits all the right spot.
