Bangkok Jam has been in the Singapore food scene for years and specialises in Thai fare. Their dishes are inspired by the capital of Thailand, Bangkok.

They have several outlets dotted across Singapore at Plaza Singapura, Marina Square and Great World.

Their menu is a substantial one and many of the dishes are similar to what you can find in Bangkok itself.

Some popular ones include Wok-hei Tom Yum Fried Rice ($14.90), Claypot Vermicelli ($14.90) and Charcoal Grilled Iberico Pork Collar ($17.90).

As they are a sustainable restaurant, they also have several plant-based menu items like Vegetarian Clear Tom Yum Soup ($11.90), Vegan Green Curry ($14.90) and Vegan Classic Stir-fried Thai Minced Basil with OnlyEg ($15.90).

When I visited the restaurant on a weekday evening, it was not too crowded so I managed to get a seat fast.

The extensive menu left me spoilt for choice and I spent a good 10 minutes pouring over it. Eventually, I settled for the Claypot Vermicelli and Crabmeat Omelette. I also got the Mixed Grilled Platter as I wanted to try all the protein options - grilled chicken, prawns, iberico pork, squid - available.

The Mixed Grilled Platter was a good idea and the portion size was good for at least 2 to 3 people, making it a great sharing dish. All the proteins were cooked well -- my favourite was the squid, it had a beautiful char!

My favorite dish out of the lot was the Claypot Vermicelli and I can definitely forsee myself coming back for this. The noodles were springy and were very flavourful while the prawns were big and juicy. Frankly, the dish didn't even need prawns and I would have been happy to just eat the noodles by itself.

The crabmeat omelette was interesting because it didn't have your usual omelette texture — it had been fried in a way where it was extremely crispy and for awhile I forgot I was eating an egg. Though it was delicious, it can get a bit oily.
