It started out at a small coffeeshop in Yishun but slowly expanded to four outlets in Singapore, serving up home-cooked food at affordable prices. All the claypot dishes are made and prepared using a traditional recipe by adding all the ingredients in each small claypot before cooking it - thus being able to maintain its consistency and keeping it pipping hot throughout each meal. There are 16 dishes on the menu, and while it doesn’t sound like a myriad of choices, this would be enough for a small gathering of 5-8 people.
One thing about dining at Lau Wang Claypot Delights is that if you are having a meal as a group, this would be a great option because you get to share and taste the different delicious food options available. However, be prepared to queue and wait if you are heading over during the peak hours.
Signature
Homemade Ngoh Hiang (2 Rolls), Sambal Kang Kong, Sliced Fish w Bittergourd
Despite waiting for 30 minutes for a table, I was throughly satisfied with the food served at Lau Wang Claypot Delights. The portion of the food was rather generous as well, which is why I would definitely recommend this for gatherings rather than individual portions. Perhaps it is a very ‘Asian’ way of eating - sharing the ingredients with your own bowl of rice - which is why dining there felt very homely and in a familiar setting.
The claypot chicken had tender chicken chunks, and enough gravy to ‘drenched’ your rice in. The Sambal Seafood had a whole different flavour, adding a layer of sweetness and spice to the meal. Definitely heading back to try the other dishes.
