Long Beach is one of the first restaurants to bring in seafood, that is now one of the staples when it comes to Singapore’s national dish. Of course it has the chilli crab that one craves, as well as various seafood, vegetables, meat and soup options to complete your meal. It is very much a Chinese restaurant with Chinese dishes, but crabs are a standalone on its own when it comes to feasting here in Singapore. Long Beach Seafood was the first to create the Black Pepper Crab dish, touted as one of the best crab dishes, on par with Chilli Crab.

The outlet at East Coast Park is situated by the riverfront, making it a breezy dining area. However, because of that, beware of the hungry flies around that can be quite an annoyance at times.

Like most of the seafood places, it is best to enjoy with a larger group so as to try out the various dishes. We had a Chilli Crab and a Black Pepper Crab, Fried You Tiao, vegetables and deep fried mantou for each of us.

The crabs didn’t disappoint, but I felt it was a little pricey for the size of the crabs. However, I have to say it was delicious - the crab meat was chunky and fresh, while the sauce had just the right amount of spice. In fact, I thought the Black Pepper Crab could be a little spicer for that extra kick, but my friends thought it was already nearly their spice limit. Of course the mantou over the Chilli Crab sauce was the cherry of top of this meal. The fried you tiao (dough fritters) had a nice crunch, with ample stuffed minced prawn and crab meat for the hungry souls.

Overall, a delightful and satisfying meal, but I wouldn’t recommend the outdoors after a pouring rain or a hot sunny day.
