The 17-year-old handmade noodle shop at Geylang road is a staple food to many around the area as well as those who travel far and wide to get their hands on this comforting bowl of noodles. Like many other shops, you may opt for soup or dry options, but I’d recommend getting the dry option so as to taste their homemade sauce and chilli, as well as the tasty soup.

Owned by a couple who started the stall out of their love for the dish, they put their culinary skills to it and created a dish that customers are willing to wait for at least half and hour to try it. The soup is simmered with bones, ikan bilis and spices for over 10 hours to bring out the flavours of it. The noodles - of course - are all handmade, with choices of ban mian, mee hoon kway or you mian to pair with either pork, fishball, meatballs, chicken, clams, etc. All their ingredients are also said to be MSG-free.

I ordered the fishball ban mian and probably waited about 15 minutes for my bowl during the non-peak hours. It was interesting to see the soup came with an egg drop, but that could probably be the reason why I enjoyed the soup so much.

First taste of the dry noodles mixed with dark sauce and chilli was a much-welcomed explosion in my mouth. The noodles had a springy texture and a distinctive taste to it - something you wouldn’t be able to get at other common stalls. The thickness of the noodles was just right, and I couldn’t have asked for a better batch of crunchy ikan bilis (fried anchovies) which elevated the taste and texture in each bite.

Definitely one of the best. Will be back for more.
