There are a few outlets of Penang Culture islandwide. For those looking to get a little taste of the Malaysian cuisine, the eatery does serves up quite a good variety of food to satisfy your cravings. Yes, some may argue about the similarities of the origins of these food dishes – if they are from Malaysia or Singapore. But really, if we are here for food, let’s put history aside for now, shall we.

Penang Culture is the first Penang-themed halal restaurant in Singapore, serving up street food dishes like cendol, laksa, chicken rice, etc, where patrons can enjoy at the comfort of great seating and an airconditioned place.

The outlet at White Sands has quite a unique seating structure. While the staff seem shorthanded and sometimes not as attentive as one hopes, I’d say the food does make up for it. Usually quiet in the afternoons, there isn’t a long waiting time to get a table or for food to be served. Generally a clean and nice area to eat, chit chat and chill.

I ordered the Hokkien Prawn Noodles because I can’t say no a bowl of piping hot prawn noodles soup. Whether is it a ‘Singaporean’ dish or a ‘Malaysian’ dish, I just love the umami taste of what prawn noodles can offer.

For someone who have been to Penang to try its authentic prawn noodles, I’d say this dish from Penang Culture is relatively close to what I have tasted in Malaysia. The soup is quite unbeatable, the colour of it is usually lighter that those you would find at local hawker centers, most probably is because of the amount of light and dark sauce added to the soup broth. The big prawns were very fresh and chewy, but the noodles were cooked a tad too long to for my liking.

Other than that, I enjoyed my meal at Penang Culture and honestly, for the affordable amount and nice environment to dine in, it’s a unintimidating place for good Penang fare.
