Located at the basement of Toa Payoh HDB Hub, the Hougang 6 Mile Much Chee stall by a second-generation hawker. Mr. Teo followed his father’s footsteps and learned how to make these glutinous rice balls covered with peanuts or black sesame. The reason why this packet or plate of Muah Chee is more expensive than those you would find outside because all the ingredients are made by hand - from milling of the flour to roasting of the peanuts.

The muah chee is made by hand and made to order. Each ball is pinched by hand - almost all in the same portion. You can opt for small, medium or large, with either peanut, black sesame or a mixed of both. The small portion is great for 1-2 people and will recommend you to try both of the coatings as you don’t come across black sesame flavour often.

Signature

Muah Chee

I have always enjoyed peanut flavouring for my savoury snacks and dishes like tutu kueh, or tang yuan, but when it comes to muah chee at this particular stall, I’d definitely get the black sesame, not because I prefer it, but it’s something different and unique. The coating isn’t as sweet as those found outside, and because it is only made by order, the little rice balls are warm and brings out the flavour that it intended to give. Definitely chewy, and crunchy at the same time, without it being too overpowering; some may feel it could be too soft and would rather a tougher and springy texture. However, I would still say it’s a great add-on to your meal.
