Dutch Colony Coffee started off as a retail store at Pasarbella, an open farmers’ market till 2018 and branched out to 3 dine-in coffee houses around Singapore. Apart from operating as an F&B retail store, it also offers other services like event coffee carts, a roaster and academy.

The outlet at Frankel Avenue is a rather quaint place, situated along rows of other coffee houses and retail shops. The aroma of the coffee greets you the moment you step into the cafe, often spotted with a near full-house seating capacity.

The food menu is rather extensive - from breakfast delights to entrees and pasta options, but of course, the key highlights have to be the coffee selections. What’s interesting is that there are filter coffee options to choose from - the type of coffee bean you’d like. Then, there are signature coffee like ‘Monochrome’ and ‘Espresso Flight’ - special concoctions made by the baristas on duty.

Signature

Caffe Latte, Cappuccino

I ordered the Salted Egg Prawn Pasta for my main, and a cup of cappuccino - basic, I know - for my beverage. Perhaps it was because I went alone, so I didn’t have to wait long for my turn. I personally enjoy the atmosphere of the place, though the small interior gets rather loud and noisy quickly.

The pasta was plated well - served with 3 big grilled prawns, salted egg yolk sauce and cherry tomatoes. It wasn’t too fancy, but I throughly enjoyed my dish. The prawns were fresh and chewy, grilled with to the right duration as you can smell that slightly-charred aroma, without it being overpowering. The pasta noodles was cooked al dente and mixed with Singaporean’s favourite salted egg sauce - a mix of sweet and salty.

The cappuccino did not disappoint. I enjoyed the taste - rich and aromatic, leaving a tad bitter aftertaste which was just what I was looking for.
