Karu’s Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant was established way back in 1993 and is currently located at Upper Bukit Timah Road. They’ve been there for more than 23 years and are a hot spot for families and folks who are craving for some authentic Indian food.

While they have a vast menu with a plethora of options to choose from, their specialty lies in fish head curry and banana leaf. For the uninitiated, banana leaf is similar to Chinese-style mixed rice where you can have a variety of dishes paired with rice.

I consider myself quite a big eater so when I found myself unable to finish my food here, I knew the portion sizes were huge! My dining companion and I got a chicken briyani meal each and we honestly wished we had just shared one set as even one set was more than enough for two people — it could even feed three people in all honesty!

Apart from being filling, the food was well-cooked and delicious — curry was fragrant and not too spicy, the chicken was tender and the vegetables were doused in a delicious curry gravy. I also really love the poppadum (crackers) which was super crunchy and really tied the whole meal together. If you prefer to cuustomise your meal, you can also do so at the counter where there are dishes out on display behind a glass case.
