The history of the stall dates back to over 50 years ago when the founder of the stall, Mr Seng Kee, hawked his black chicken herbal soup at the roadside. In 1970, he came up with the recipe for their now famous mee sua and eventually, the stall became so popular that they moved into a large restaurant space at Changi Road. Today, they take up three units along that road and yet, there sometimes isn’t enough space to fit all their customers! Their famous Black Chicken Herbal Soup is a medicinal soup which apparently has very good health properties!
Once you walk into the restaurant, you’ll be greeted by their menu which is plastered from one end of a wall to the other right in front of their kitchen. I admittedly had a hard time deciding what to eat because there were just so many options but I finally settled for a bowl of their famous Black Chicken Herbal soup, Mee Sua with Prawn and Mince Pork and Fried Egg with Shrimp. The Black Chicken Herbal Soup certainly lived up to its name and was extremely potent and flavourful with bitter notes. Very invigorating! I also was pleasantly surprised by the mee sua, one of their recommended menu items. I am not usually a fan of mee sua noodles but this bowl was a game-changer thanks to the gravy used. The noodles did get soggy fast but you can slurp it up with the sauce like a porridge. They were also very generous with the ingredients! The fried egg was all right. Not the best but a good centerpiece dish to share with many people.
