Kam's Roast had humble beginnings in Hong Kong. In 1942, the family business opened an eatery called Yung Kee Restaurant on Wellington Street. It was started by Mr Kam Shui Fai and was passed down to Mr Kam Kinsen Kwan Sing. Now, it is being held by the grandson.

Since 2015 to 2023, the Hong Kong restaurant has attained a one Michelin star consecutively, which is quite a feat. With their great success, they have also opened multiple restaurants across the world, in places like Singapore and Malaysia.

Kam's Roast is one of those restaurants that you have to visit once in your life and I am glad that I finally did.

I went down on a Sunday evening and it was already full-house with a snaking long queue. Thankfully, they had a table for two pax and we managed to get a seat pretty quickly!

While roast duck is their speciality, they have several other roast meat options like char siew and sio bak, which left us spoilt for choice. We also wanted to get the pipa duck but that is only on a pre-order basis — do take note of this to avoid the same disappointment that we experienced!

Eventually we settled on half a duck (they have options for quarter duck and full duck too!), a plate of cucumbers, tofu and wanton mee.

I'm not joking when I say that this is easily one of the best roast ducks I've ever had — and it isn't even from their original stall in Hong Kong! The flesh remained tender - even the lean parts - and there was an excellent fat to meat ratio. What I really enjoyed was the bits with skin — so chock full of umami! I savoured each bite because I didn't want it to end.

I also have to praise their wanton noodles, which were some of the better ones I've had in Singapore. In fact, my partner, who is from Hong Kong, gave his stamp of approval. These were springy and had a crunchy, elastic bite. The wontons were also extremely plump with a generous prawn to pork filling.

If you can't fly all the way to Hong Kong to try Kam's Roast, this is your next best option!
