88 San Ren Cold & Hot Dessert has been in Newton Food Centre for over 30 years, doling out bowls of nostalgic, traditional desserts.
It's easy to spot the family-run business' storefront thanks to its bright pink exterior.
The stall is so popular that it has even been featured in the Straits Times and the review is proudly plastered across the stall's signboard.
Some of the many desserts here include Durian Ice Kachang, Grass Jelly with Longan, Mango Pudding with Longan and Soursop with Sea Coconut.
It was a very hot day and I felt the need to eat something to cool me down, so I got a Durian Ice Kachang from 88 San Ren Cold & Hot Dessert.
The icy dessert came with a generous dollop of creamy durian, which paired perfectly with the shaved rice.
Apart from being cooling, the dessert also had just the right amount of sweetness without being too cloying. I also like the ingredients at the bottom such as beans and jelly, which added a nice texture to the dessert. Recommended for those who need something cooling to beat the sweltering Singapore heat!
