The crowd starts to flow in a little before 12pm, so be there early to grab a bowl of wanton mee, served with both fried and steamed dumplings. The owner opened the stall in 2003 at the famed Golden Shoe but moved to this market as a temporary hawker centre. The char siew (roasted pork) and wanton are the highlights of the dish, both handmade daily. Mr Desmond Lim will wake up 4am each morning to prepare the ingredients to make sure they are fresh and up to standard.

There are 6 different types of noodles to choose from and 2 sizes (Small for $3.50; Large for $4.50). The portions are rather generous, so don’t fret about getting the smaller size option, but do remember to grab the chillis!

I was there about 11.30, a little earlier before the lunch crowd started coming in. I didn’t have to wait long for my bowl of dried wanton noodles. Like what I’ve read online, for the price you are paying, this bowl is rather worth it.

Portion wise, it’s a good amount and the variety of ingredients - from the char siew, fried wanton and vegetables, it’s an overall hearty lunch. I seldom take deep fried wanton, but this was an exception. Not only did the fried wanton didn’t feel extremely oily, the crisp was fried to perfection, with its soft and chewy meat in it. The char siew has a smoky-charred flavour which I absolutely adore, and added so much more taste and flavour to this otherwise normal bowl of noodles.
