There are many stalls in Singapore that serve a good bowl of prawn noodles, then there are some that go a step further with giving customers a big prawn option where the prawns are chewier, larger in size and definitely more flavourful. And of course, Wen Wen Big Prawn Mee proves the ultimate option - a seafood hotpot in rich prawn broth with crabs, lala and so many other ingredients in it.
Uncle Richard is the stall owner who is very friendly and open about your dining options (if it isn’t too crowded). He asked each customer if there are ingredients they don’t want in their bowl and is open to swapping it with other ingredients. First opened about 7 years ago, the stall is now brimming with customers wanting a bowl of prawn noodles.
Signature
Big Prawn Noodle
As much I would love to try the famed seafood hotpot, I ordered a bowl of the big prawn noodles soup instead as I was alone by myself. The highlight of the dish, the prawns, were so tender, chewy and fresh I enjoyed every bit of it dipped with the chilli served. There is something about ordering larger-sized prawns, enjoying the peeling of the shell and tasting the sweetness of this crustacean.
The noodle was average, but the soup - having boiled and simmered with prawn shells, pork bones and herbs - added an extra oomph to the dish. It was flavourful but rather light on the fishy, ‘prawny taste’, something which I actually was craving for more.
Having said that, I’ll be back with friends to try the seafood hotpot one day!
