Yi Ji Hokkien Mee is known to be one of the more popular Hokkien noodle stalls in Singapore and most of their stalls are always open till late, making it a good supper option. The brand has been around for many years and they currently have 7 branches, with a new one at People’s Park Centre. As some people are jealous of the success of Yi Ji Hokkien Mee, some imitations have sprung up here and there, so do be careful of them. Check their social media pages for a full list of the real stalls! Apart from Hokkien mee, they also sell other dishes such as carrot cake as well as fried oyster omelette and fried prawn omelette.

Signature

Yi Ji Hokkien Prawn Mee

I got myself a plate of their Hokkien mee ($5) which came loaded generously with ingredients like prawns, abalone and pork slices. The dish had a decent amount of wok hei and the prawn broth used was packed with umami, enhancing the flavour of the noodles. Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Mee is also known for their super spicy chilli and I can attest to that — I couldn’t stop gulping down water! I suggest adding the chilli bit by bit to the noodles instead of just mixing it all in at the start. But if you are a chilli lover who loves a challenge, go ahead and do so! I also really liked the addition of abalone, which is something I haven’t seen from any other Hokkien mee stalls. It adds a nice chewy texture to the dish.
