Specialising in local and Indonesian cuisines, Adam Chicken Rice is a family-owned business at the famous Adam Road Food Centre near Botanic Gardens MRT station. It is the perfect place to try some authentic Ayam Penyet, a popular Indonesian chicken dish that is also known as smashed fried chicken. The stall is also Halal Muslim owned, making it a good option for our Muslim friends. Be prepared for long queues, especially during lunchtime; we recommend that you come down early to skip the queues!

One of Adam Chicken Rice’s most popular menu items is the Ayam Penyet (S$6), which features smashed fried chicken paired with fragrant yellow rice, spicy chilli, cucumber and a chunk of fried beancurd. The fried chicken had been fried to a nice golden brown crisp and was very well seasoned. I also like how it was not too oily and greasy despite being fried. Unlike white rice, which we are used to eating, this stall uses flavoured yellow rice instead which is more aromatic, fluffy and delicious. For a fiery kick, add a little of their chilli, but be warned: it is VERY spicy! I also appreciate how the serving sizes here are incredibly massive so you definitely will feel very full and satisfied after your meal.
