The stall specialises in Chinese fare and their most popular dish is their wallet-friendly Steamed Mini Buns (xiao long baos). The stall owners are from Nanjing and they came to Singapore in 1998. After cooking in a number of Chinese restaurants in Singapore, they decided to open a stall at this hawker centre in 2011. All the xiao long bao here are handmade in-house and you can watch the store owner do so while queuing for your food.

If you love xiao long baos or steamed mini buns but hate the hefty price tags, get your fix at Shang Hai La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Alexandra Food Centre. These come in adorable baskets of seven and are priced very affordably. Everything is handmade at the shop itself to ensure authenticity and freshness. While it honestly isn’t as refined as some of the xiao long baos you can find at restaurants, it is quite a steal for the price point. The skin-to-meat ratio of the xiao long baos were decent and the meat hidden within the folds of the soft dumpling wrappers was succulent and juicy with a good bite to it. On the other hand, the soup had just the right amount of savouriness to it and flowed out nicely when the xiao long bao was broken open. Pair it with some ginger slices and vinegar to enhance the flavour profile of the dumplings.
