The stall is run by a Chinese couple from Shandong and the chef and owner, Mr Wang, actually worked at PUTIEN for over three years before deciding to set up his own shop at Alexandra Village Food Centre. He did so because he realised that Singapore’s food scene didn’t have many places that sold Heng Hwa cuisine and even if there were, the prices were not very wallet-friendly. Therefore, he wanted to provide something more wallet-friendly for Singaporeans. Apart from the popular Putian Lor Mee, they have a variety of other dishes for you to choose from such as Beancurd Stew, Braised Peanuts Pig Trotter and Putien Stir-Fried Yam.

Of course, I had to try their Putian Lor Mee to see how it matched up to the one at PUTIEN. I ordered the smallest size for $4 and even then, the serving size was massive and was very filling. Each bowl comes loaded with white noodles, prawns, clams, pork slices, tofu puffs and vegetables that are doused in a very thick, viscous gravy that had a strong seafood flavour which I really enjoyed. Taste wise, it was quite similar to the one from PUTIEN so it makes it a pretty good substitute if you don’t work to fork out so much for the restaurant rendition of the dish. It’s really very worth it and perfect to have on a cold, rainy day, which is what I did!
